Award-winning jazz pianist, bandleader and clinician David Berkman has been a fixture on the New York jazz circuit since 1985. Berkman has nine recordings as a leader under his belt, (many of which have placed on numerous best records of the year lists in the New York Times, Village Voice, Downbeat, and others) and has recorded with, arranged for and performed alongside a plethora of jazz greats such as Joe Lovano, Dave Douglas, Tom Harrell and Chris Potter, among others.
In May 2015, Berkman released his latest album on Palmetto Records, “Old Friends and New Friends” featuring Brian Blade, Linda Oh, Dayna Stephens, Adam Kolker, and Billy Drewes to critical acclaim (“with music that resonates so deeply and sound that’s superb, Old Friends And New Friends has it all.” – All About Jazz).
Along with Berkman, the trio is comprised of bassist Ed Howard, known for his long-standing tenure with the legendary Roy Haynes and drummer Victor Lewis, whose associations include jazz luminaries such as Woody Shaw, Stan Getz, Kenny Baron and Carla Bley.
