New York, NY – Ben Wendel’s latest album All One has achieved the pinnacle of recognition with his first GRAMMY® nomination as a leader in the category of Best Contemporary Instrumental Album. The boundless Wendel airs his instrumental variety on All One, heard on tenor and soprano saxophone, bassoon, EFX and hand percussion. He braves six imaginative, cultivated arrangements alongside the finest crew of collaborators, including vocalists Cécile McLorin Salvant and José James, trumpeter Terence Blanchard, guitarist Bill Frisell, pianist Tigran Hamasyan and flutist Elena Pinderhughes. The 66th GRAMMY® Awards celebration is confirmed for February 4, 2024.

“I am absolutely honored and floored to receive this nomination. Huge thanks to everyone that has supported this record and to Terence Blanchard, Bill Frisell, Cécile McLorin Salvant, José James, Elena Pinderhughes and Tigran Hamasyan for joining me on this adventure. I am feeling very grateful,” Wendel shared in a statement.

All One is a six-track musical masterpiece that finds the multi-instrumentalist in top form. Featuring elaborate and extensive one-man arrangements, sometimes with as many as 30 multi-tracked layers of horns, on these Wendel adds his own distinct soloist voice. As DownBeat Magazine said in a Spring feature on the album, “out of creative urgency and a sense of artistic mission, the resulting All One is a prime case of a highly technology-enabled project that also breathes and feels organic. All One was released this past April on UK-based, innovative jazz label Edition Records. The album has garnered worldwide praise, including spotlights by The Wall Street Journal, Bandcamp Daily, DownBeat Magazine and more.

This is Ben Wendel’s first GRAMMY® nomination as a leader, and second career nomination. In 2010, Wendel gained a nomination with the leaderless post-jazz collective Kneebody in the now discontinued Best Crossover Classical Album category. Originally from Vancouver but now based in Brooklyn, Wendel is considered one of the leading instrumentalists of his generation, and has recorded or performed with a cadre of legendary hitmakers from Prince to Snoop Dogg, to jazz firebrands Aaron Parks, Taylor Eigsti, Antonio Sanchez, Gerald Glayton and more. All One is his sixth album.

Wendel is proud to be nominated in this category alongside House of Waters, Julian Lage, Bob James and Béla Fleck, Zakir Hussain and Edgar Meyer (featuring Rakesh Chaurasia).
