With her long-anticipated third album on Jazzbird Records, the outstanding jazz vocalist Kris Adams has pulled out all the stops with Longing, an ambitious effort that hits the mark on every level. With a warmly captivating, sensuously emotive voice and an impeccably rhythmic and lyrical delivery, Kris has created an album of richly varied material that is firmly unified behind a singular artistic and conceptual vision. Originally released to a packed house in May 2014, Adam’s is celebrating Longing’s success with a special encore presentation.
“All of these songs represent people, places and things in my life – with messages that mean something very special to me; messages about the many forms of love. Love that is present or lost; love that is fleeting or lasting, love that transcends time and space.”
In the classic style of jazz vocal mastery, Kris is not just a singer of songs, but a teller of tales. The stories she has chosen to share at Ryles soar through a full scope of moods and forms from Latin and Brazilian styles to straightforward swinging.
Adams is joined by an all star ensemble including trumpeter Greg Hopkins (who also arranged the bulk of Longing), pianist Tim Ray, bassist Paul Del Nero, drummer Bob Tomagni. Also joining the group is saxophonists Rick DiMuzio, Ben Whiting, and Shannon LeClaire, as well as flautists Fernando Brandão and Bob Patton.
