David Neves: Progress Report
by George W. Harris, Jazz Weekly

Trumpeter David Neves displays an impressive sound here as he puts together nine originals along wit Michael Thomas/as-bcl, Greg Duncan/g, Barclay Moffitt/ts, Naomi Gillies/voc, Edward Perez/b, Lee Fish/dr and Julian Shore-Matthew Sheens/p. His horn is warm and fluffy on “Evelynn’s Song” and the pastoral “Curious Traveler” and he knows how to milk a melody as shown on”End of the Beginning>” The front line of horns delivers some boppy staccato on the snappy “For J.P.” and they can dig into the deep groove on “Hamilton.” A bit of fusion changes the atmosphere as everyone plugs in for “Progress Report” but the emphasis here is mostly tone, and tone delivered with class and style.
