Bassist Richie Goods and Vibraphonist Chien Chien Lu To Release Single “Rain,” on December 7, 2021
Jazz-funk bass extraordinaire Richie Goods and in-demand vibraphonist Chien Chien Lu are revealing a glimpse of their forthcoming, groove-infused album on their new single, “Rain.” Due out on December 7, 2021, “Rain” revisits the R&B female vocal trio SWV’s tune sampling the legendary Jaco Pastorius’ bass melody on “Portrait of Tracy.” On December 11, Goods and Lu will perform at Nublu in New York City to mark the single release.
On this version of “Rain,” Goods leads the way with a gentle moment on bass followed by a soulful guitar solo from Quintin Zoto. When Lu enters with her vibraphone solo, “Rain” solidifies a sound that blends groove, jazz and R&B all at once.
After practicing, writing, and eventually hosting livestream concerts together during the pandemic quarantine, Lu and Goods decided to work together more extensively. With the help of a small grant from NewMusicUSA, the two musicians were able to fund a full-length project.

The pair cites their shared love for groovy music as the impetus of their bona fide creative connection. “Our work together has been the most natural and organic thing I have done in my career,” Goods remarks.
Lu and Goods are regular collaborators. Goods produced Lu’s debut album The Path, which was released last year and received worldwide critical acclaim. The definitively mellow energy between Richie Goods and Chien Chien Lu shines on “Rain”, which will be featured on their soon-to-be-announced forthcoming album, due out next year.
