A Celebration of Latin Music’s Enduring Legacy

Multi-Grammy Winner Aymée Nuviola Joins Star-Studded CBS Special

The Recording Academy and CBS are proud to announce “A GRAMMY Celebration of Latin Music,” a two-hour special honoring the lasting impact and widespread influence of Latin music in the United States. Airing Sunday, December 28th at 8-10 p.m. ET/PT on the CBS Television Network and streaming on Paramount+, this star-studded event will feature performances by some of the biggest names in Latin and international music.

Multi-Grammy winner Aymée Nuviola, known worldwide as “La Sonera del Mundo,” will join an extraordinary lineup including Ángela Aguilar, Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bublé, Gloria Estefan, Luis Fonsi, Carín León and Nuno Bettencourt, Maren Morris, Laura Pausini, Prince Royce, Jon Secada, Robin Thicke, and many more.

Filmed in Miami, “A GRAMMY Celebration of Latin Music” will feature covers of classic songs, tributes to legendary Latin artists, performances of top hits by Latin superstars, and performers across musical genres, with interviews and special features throughout the two-hour broadcast.

“It is a true honor to be part of this celebration of Latin music,” said Nuviola. “I am deeply grateful to the Recording Academy and CBS for the opportunity to represent the music immortalized by the greatest Latin artist of the 20th century, our Queen, Celia Cruz.”

Nuviola’s participation in this historic celebration underscores her position as one of the most influential voices in Latin music today. As a Governor of the Florida Chapter of the GRAMMY Recording Academy, she made history in 2022 as the first Latin American to sing in a special segment showcasing the historically underrepresented Tropical genre on the 64th GRAMMY Awards telecast.

The Havana-born singer, musician, songwriter, and actress embodies the magical blend of musical genres that defines her native Cuba. Classically trained at the Manuel Samuell Conservatory, Cuba’s top music academy, Nuviola’s sound is highly influenced by Classical, American Jazz, Bossa Nova, Cuban Son, Bolero, and Fílin genres. Known as one of the founders of the “Timba” genre and the first female to lead a “Timba” band around the world, she has also earned recognition as “The Voice of EL FILIN of her generation.”

Nuviola’s remarkable achievements include winning Latin Grammy Awards in 2022 for “Best Traditional Tropical Album” (with Maestro Gonzalo Rubalcaba for “Live In Marciac”) and in 2018 for “Best Tropical Fusion Album” (“Como Anillo Al Dedo”). She has received multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations, with her song “Bailando todo se olvida” reaching #1 on the Billboard Tropical list and five consecutive songs landing in the Billboard Tropical top ten.

In 2021, People en Español magazine selected her among the 25 most powerful Latina women in the United States, and Hola magazine included her on their “Latina 100 Top Powerhouse 2021” list honoring the most influential and empowered Latinas of the year. Most recently, she began 2024 with a Premio Lo Nuestro nomination for “Best Tropical Artist.”

Beyond music, Nuviola starred as the protagonist in the internationally acclaimed telenovela about the life of Celia Cruz, which aired on Telemundo in the United States and in 45 other countries, plus Netflix. She has also collaborated with humanitarian organizations including USAID, Amnesty International, The League Against Cancer, 305 Pink Pack, and autism awareness organizations.

Critics and fellow artists have praised Nuviola’s extraordinary talent:

“A MASSIVE ARTIST WITH MANY TALENTS” — Latin Jazz Net

“CUBA’S MOST BEAUTIFUL VOICE” — El Tiempo, Colombia

“BEAUTIFUL, INTELLIGENT AND A GENIUS” — Gonzalo Rubalcaba

“AN ARTIST OF INFINITE POSSIBILITIES. ¡SHE’S BRILLIANT!” — Chucho Valdés

Ted Panken of the New York Daily News captured her essence: “Many people relate Aymée with Celia Cruz. Probably the main reason is that, since Celia Cruz, we haven’t seen any singer with the power of attraction and charisma and grace and talent that we see from Aymée. She’s not trying to become Celia Cruz. That’s impossible. She has been trying to be Aymée Nuviola, and this is what she does… She’s an amazing storyteller, which is very typical of many Cuban people. She can make you laugh. But at the same time, she really deep and serious in what she does.”

“A GRAMMY Celebration of Latin Music” promises to be a landmark television event, showcasing the rich diversity and cultural significance of Latin music across generations and genres. Don’t miss this historic celebration on December 28th.
