KATHY KOSINS & THE DETROIT MEMPHIS EXPERIENCE™
Put The Voodoo On Me
Best R&B Performance
#1 on the Indie Soul Chart!
On “Put the Voodoo on Me,” the first ever track billed to her band Detroit Memphis Experience, veteran vocalist Kathy Kosins brings her sly, sensual and soulfully powerful vocals to a Neville Brothers classic (originally titled “Voodoo”). Recorded in Detroit and produced by Paul Randolph (Jazzanova) and Kamau Kenyatta (Gregory Porter), the slow simmering track adds a deeper Motor City blues/funk element and sparks of old school R&B while keeping the swampy spirit of New Orleans intact. Both moody and playful, the multi-faceted track allows us to enjoy three distinct musical genres in an otherworldly tasty gumbo!
“What you get here are actual songs without any stupid gimmicks, a crisp and rich production and a singer with a voice that has been trained as a sought-after backing vocalist, esteemed multi genre artist with some great albums under her own name, and a skilled songwriter who surrounds herself with the perfect people to help get her message across.” GINA LOVES JAZZ
Kosins and the Detroit Memphis Experience smooth out the percussive and funky Neville Brothers version and also add some improvisation. And then there’s Kosins’ vocals that are power packed, yet sensual and hypnotic when they have to be. Kosins reimagining of “Put the Voodoo on Me” is one that pays homage to the original while also managing to be distinct. - SOULTRACKS
