I Siciliani, a wondrous musical portrait of Sicily, is brought to life by the acclaimed Italian pianist Cettina Donato and renowned actor Antonio ‘Ninni’ Bruschetta. In their second collaboration, Donato and Bruschetta display a remarkable synergy and expansive musical vision through eleven of Donato’s expressive compositions and the work of the late Italian poet Antonio Caldarella.

The artistic inspiration for this project comes from the Strait of Messina, a common homeland for both Donato and Bruschetta, and geographically speaking, the narrow strait between the eastern tip of Sicily and the western tip of Calabria in the south of Italy. Antonio Caldarella crossed the same passageway throughout his life. Caldarella was a native of Avola in Sicily and raised between Naples, Messina and “the rest of the world.” With Ninni Bruschetta’s brilliant interpretations, Caldarella’s poetry is brought to life on I Siciliani

This suite of 8 songs and 3 preludes for piano are all composed, arranged and performed by Donato’s quartet with the assistance of the world class B.I.M Orchestra. Joining Donato is saxophonist Dario Cecchini, double bass player Dario Rosciglione and drummer Mimmo Campanale. Actress and singer Celeste Gugliandolo is a featured special guest on one track.

STEFANO SOLVENTI
SENTIRE ASCOLTARE JAZZ MAGAZINE
"When you listen to Cettina’s music, you can hear a passionate strength, a passion for jazz music so intense that it looks like it comes up from colours, flavours, profiles of a beloved land."

GAZZETTA DEL SUD
"Cettina Donato's compositions are beautiful, charming, and spontaneous. It's clear to hear how the pianist knows the tradition but also uses a new way to describe her own music."

D. OSCAR GROOMES
O'S PLACE
"All of the music is fresh, originals by Donato behind the works of the late Italian poet Antonio Caldarella. Donato and Bruschetta embrace the poems as their own, a taste of jazz and romance. It is a bit intoxicating.."

CHRIS SPECTOR
MIDWEST RECORD

"With a crew at the wheel that understands the interplay of music and theatrics, the words of a late poet are examined in song and performances..Delightfully out of the ordinary.."
