Brandee Younger
does something that is unusual but compelling: She takes her harp to places where few others go, including jazz, soul and hip-hop, and is celebrated for the results.

Brandee is now releasing her new disc, Soul Awakening, a surprising six years after she recorded it. This collection of recently unearthed gems is produced by Dezron Douglas(who also plays on the record), and features saxophonists Stacy Dillard and Chelsea Baratz, drummer E.J. Strickland and special guests Ravi Coltrane, Antoine Roney, Chris Beck, Freddie Hendrix, Sean Jones, Niia, Corey Wilcox and Nicole Camacho.

And on our latest First Listen, we’re featuring a beautiful interpretation of a Marvin Gaye classic. On this “Save The Children,” Brandee and singer Niia provide an intimate take on the familiar song, which is now issued as a tribute to Ana Grace Marquez-Greene, daughter of famed musician and family friend Jimmy Greene and wife Nelba Marquez-Greene, who was a victim in the tragic Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.

Take listen to “Save The Children” below, and immerse yourself in this beautiful new version of an old favorite.
