Vocalist and pianist Kelly Green makes a powerful first impression. Since landing in the New York jazz scene a few years ago she’s earned the admiration of heavyweights like bassist Christian McBride and vibraphonist Steve Nelson, who both perform on her impressive debut album “Life Rearranged.”
Accompanying herself with harmonic wit and rhythmic drive, she performs a set of smart original songs and reimagined standards, delivered with a vocal style that’s cool but emotionally absorbing.
Performing with rising young rhythm section tandem of drummer Evan Hyde and bassist Alex Tremblay, Green makes her Bay Area debut with a four-night residency at the Black Cat, an old-school style engagement that sets the Tenderloin nightspot apart from every other club in the region.
