Both singers have an undeniable charm and chemistry, witnessed in their individual works and artistic collaborations. They have spent the last few years cutting their teeth on original arrangements, steeped in tales of love and loss. The end result? Two debut albums from Kane and from Gage, Love, Myself, and Siren Songs respectively.
Berklee College of Music graduate Lilan Kane has a vintage-tinged soul sound, reminiscent of Amy Winehouse. She recently took the stage as part of 2017’s Undercover Presents: A Tribute to the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and can be heard leading her own California soul groups, as well as her private band Hella Fitzgerald. From Fillmore Jazz Festival, to Google parties, Lilan has a captivating set that is entertaining and raw. She is also a featured singer in the Dick Bright Orchestra, and recently opened for Hall & Oates, Sharon Jones, Trombone Shorty, and Morgan James.
Jackie Gage is a musical storyteller. This San Jose native has received praise from the likes of AFROPUNK and AllAboutJazz, celebrating her nod to the future of R&B and jazz. She relocated to NYC last year, where she has been paired with legacy artists like The Brand New Heavies and El Debarge. She continues to tour both coasts, with past shows at BB Kings’s New York, Philadelphia’s South Jazz Parlor, Fillmore Jazz Festival, San Jose Jazz Summer Fest, and Blue Whale in Los Angeles. Her silky voice is best likened to smooth wine, with her original music feeling emotional, joyous, heart-wrenching, and celebratory all at once.
The pair met in friendly competition during Jazz Search West 2014—both as passionate vocalists with a strong footing in soul and jazz. The singers were rooted in an all-female acapella group for some time, selling out shows at the Sound Room in Oakland, while also pursuing individual dreams, with performances at Fillmore Jazz Festival, San Jose Jazz Summer Fest, and other Bay Area staple events.
